A Dry Spell
I find this so frustrating. Currently I am interning at one of the city’s theatres and it consumes my life. I love my job and I enjoy being so close to the stage, but it isn’t close enough. It might be a slight exaggeration but it is almost like a parched man being held inches over cool refreshing water.
I don’t have time to go around and see other shows in town because I am stage managing. Stage Management isn’t my passion but I am pretty skilled at it and one must pay the bills. The show that I am managing is reading of a new children’s musical. I am pretty excited about. The writer is really skilled and is very passionate about not writing shows that talks down to children but challenges them on an intellectual level. (www.theatrebuildingchicago.org)
I am saddend by this dry spell but I feel something big on the horizon.
As for the theatre scene: I am going to see a production that my roommate is in “Aesop and Icurus.” It is a movement show in conjunction with the UIC choirs.
More later. Tell them.
“Theatre of the Sublime. That is what I am creating.”
